What does an air-to-water heat pump do?

When you have an air-to-water heat pump, you reuse the heat in the air outside to heat your home and your hot water. It is an environmentally friendly and economical heating solution.

Compared to oil or natural gas, it is far more environmentally friendly because you use air rather than fossil fuels. Fossil fuels are primarily coal, oil, and natural gas. They were formed several hundred million years ago by dead animals and plants that are gradually compressed and subjected to massive pressure in the ground. … When the stocks of coal, oil and natural gas here on earth are used up, it’s over.

Therefore, it is essential to think of the environment when choosing a heating solution. At Sternberg VVS- & Gasteknik A/S, we help you through the entire process – from advice and choice of size of your new heat pump to installation, location, and service inspection of your air-to-water heat pump.

Heating energy more than 3 times as efficient

The air-to-water heat pump is electrically powered and delivers 3-5 times as much heating energy, as it uses in electrical energy. This makes it an economical and sustainable system alternative to, for example, oil-fired boilers, natural gas, or district heating.

The air to water heat pump is not as efficient as a geothermal heating system, but it is cheaper in investment costs and also does not depend on the size of the grounds.

That is why an air-to-water heat pump is often our customers’ preferred solution. If you instead want to know more about the even more efficient solution a geothermal heating system can offer you and opportunities for establishing geothermal heating with, then you can read more about geothermal heating here.

With an air-to-water heat pump system you get:

N

Energy-efficient heat

As mentioned, an air-to-water heat pump delivers between 3-5 times as much heat energy as it uses in electrical energy.

N

Environmentally friendly heat

The heat from an air-to-water heat pump is renewable energy and is one of the most environmentally-friendly heating solutions you can choose.

N

Quiet solution

Air-to-water heat pumps are very quiet, so once your heat pump is installed, you will hardly notice it.

If you are in doubt about how quiet it is, take the dialogue with our technicians so you can compare models and noise levels. There is a difference in the sound level of the different air-to-water heat pump models.

N

Space-optimization

An air-to-water heat pump does not require the same space as, for example, a geothermal heating system does. Therefore, the air-to-water heat pump is a good alternative for you who do not have large grounds.

It also takes up significantly less space than an old-fashioned oil boiler. The inner part corresponds to a standard gas boiler installation and the outer part needs a few square meters to be efficient.

N

Total Solution

The air-to-water heat pump is a total solution that heats both your home and your hot water. It provides a manageable heating solution for you as a homeowner.

N

Safe operation

An air-to-water heat pump is reliable and has a long service life. This means that investment costs will typically recoup after relatively few years. If you maintain your system at the same time with regular service, as well as general maintenance and cleaning, your system can last significantly longer. What this entails, we would very much like to tell you much more about it. You are welcome to contact us for further dialogue.

Three typical questions we hear from customers

Does the air-to-water heat pump provide enough heat for my entire house?

With an air-to-water heat pump, you are sure to get a heating solution that can heat your entire home and all your domestic water. In our advice and guidance, we make sure to dimension the size of the heat pump first, so that you get a heating solution that suits your consumption and needs.

We have over 30 years of experience in this – it means security and safety for you as a customer.

Can the air-to-water heat pump extract heat in frosty weather?

All our air-to-water heat pumps are developed for the Danish climate and are efficient all the way down to 25 degrees below zero. However, the efficiency of the air-to-water heat pump decreases when the outdoor temperature is very low. Therefore, you can consider a secondary heat source, it could be a wood stove or the like.

Our installers help you with calculations and advice, so you get exactly the heat pump solution that suits you – and will never lack heat or hot water.

Do you need a statutory inspection of your heat pump?

The Danish Environmental Protection Agency requires that all air-to-water heat pumps be inspected once a year by an expert. You should be aware that local authorities may require documentation for supervision. If you sign up for a service subscription at Sternberg VVS- & Gasteknik A/S, your control card from the annual inspection is in both cases your documentation that these requirements have been complied with. Requirements for ERP Energy Labeling

ERP, stands for energy related products, and is the EU’s energy label that applies throughout the EU.

Heat pumps must live up to strict EU requirements, which makes it easier for the customer to choose the most energy-efficient product.

Since September 2015, all heat pumps have been provided with an energy label, such as those you already know from refrigerators and washing machines.
The energy classes go from A +++ (for systems) and A ++ (for products) so now it is easy to choose a good and right product.

This legislation also means that the installer’s offer must be provided with an energy label as well as a data sheet describing the energy efficiency of the solution.
